About Dorian Mode

Dorian Mode M.A (hons) D.C.A is a multi award-winning jazz pianist and composer. Upon leaving school he sat for a degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and eventually signed to EMI Records – one of the few local jazz artists to be signed to a major in Australia – releasing his debut CD Rebirth of the Cool –with jazz luminaries Bernie McGann and others.

Dorian’s recorded numerous CDs earning an ABC Music Award for Best Instrumental and Best Jazz Composition, the latter composition published in the Australian Jazz Real Book. He’s also composed the music for a TV series for FOX in the US and awarded an ABC Music Award for Best Theatrical Score for his music for the play The Good German at the Seymour Centre.

He is also a writer of funny novels published by Penguin and Random House in Europe. He is also an internationally published playwright.

He has been awarded two university scholarships and holds both a Masters of Arts (Hons) and Doctorate of Arts. For three years he taught creative writing at Newcastle University and for ten years was head of the jazz dept at the Conservatorium of Music on the Central Coast.

He recently toured the South Pacific with Galapagos Duck as their guest vocalist.
