Born in Sydney, raised in Queensland, Chris began his professional career in Melbourne with Rock Granite & The Profiles, also performing with the likes of Ross Wilson, Joe Camilleri and Dutch Tilders. Since relocating to Sydney he’s played power pop with Flex and Outline, old-school blues with The Layabouts and Foreday Riders, swing and vintage r&b with the Jive Bombers and blues/rock with Wards Xpress. He is also an award-winning songwriter (APRA Awards 2001, Songs Alive! Songwriter of the Year 2012).
SUNDAY DRIVERS is a hard-rocking combo of pro musos from the Central Coast and Hunter Valley who are tired of always having to commute to Sydney (and beyond!) for gigs. The concept is a weekend party band where the members and invited guests can plant the foot and motor through some classic rock and blues tunes without having to face a long drive home.
SUNDAY DRIVERS are:
JOHN MAKEY vocals
Born in London, John joined his first band in 1976 and went on to front various northern Sydney outfits including The River Rats, Black Label and Mudcrab Soup. In 1997 he was headhunted by famed guitarist Mal Eastick and still performs with Mal’s touring band. John has also featured as a special guest singer with The Shuffle Kings and, over the years, shared the stage with Kevin Borich, Ian Moss, Phil Emmanuel, Phil Manning, Leo Sayer and Joe Walsh, among many others.
ROSS WARD guitar/vocals
In four decades as a musician and singer/songwriter, Sydney-born Ross has worked with some of Australia’s biggest names. In his own right, whether solo or as bandleader of Wards Xpress, he’s made multiple appearances at every major music festival in the country. He wrote and recorded two consecutive CDs that went to No 1 on the Australian Blues & Roots charts and, in 2014, his version of Man Of The Road was voted No 15 in the Country Music Channel’s most-requested videos.
CHRIS NABLE drums
Sydney born and bred, Chris first turned pro with powerhouse blues trio Third Degree. During those years he also stepped out to perform with Kevin Borich, Jeff Lang and Phil Emmanuel, to name just a few. In 1999 Chris moved to Argentina where he spent 10 years recording and touring with the legendary Ricardo Soulé, playing in front of large audiences throughout South America. Since returning to Australia he has worked with PJ O’Brien, Darren Jack and Wards Xpress as well as various US touring artists including Tony Sarno.
